Locate the change before adjusting the line.
First confirm that the comparison itself is valid.
A particle result has changed
Check sample location, preparation and method before changing a refiner. Then compare the actual inlet, product and reject streams.
- Confirm metric and distribution basis.
- Inspect fitted screens and seals.
- Check feed condition and loading variation.
A viscosity result has changed
Compare temperature, instrument settings, conditioning and reading time. A different test condition may describe a different observation.
- Repeat under agreed conditions.
- Review formulation and product history.
- Inspect transfer only after the comparison is meaningful.
Filling becomes inconsistent
Work backwards from the filler inlet: supply, temperature, air and product structure. Do not isolate the filling head from its feed system.
- Check pressure and buffer behavior.
- Observe air entry and interruptions.
- Compare samples before and after the affected stage.
